Christchurch Teachers’ Astrobiology Day - From Aotearoa to the Origins of Life: Ten Years of Astrobiology
Event description
From Aotearoa to the Origins of Life: Ten Years of Astrobiology
Join us at the Air Force Museum for a unique, full-day event designed specifically for Christchurch teachers and educators interested in space science, sustainability, and interdisciplinary learning.
This special occasion celebrates a decade of astrobiology in Aotearoa New Zealand — a field that explores life in the Universe and our place within it. Through engaging presentations by local and international scientists, including speakers from NASA, JPL, and the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, we’ll explore how astrobiology connects science, ethics, culture, and the future of life on Earth.
Teachers will gain:
Insights into how astrobiology supports the NZ curriculum
Practical ideas for integrating space science in the classroom
Opportunities to connect with the national Spaceward Bound NZ programme
Early access to the new travelling astrobiology exhibition
Whether you’re teaching science, geography, social studies, or sustainability, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring the universe into your classroom.
This event is made possible with generous support from the U.S. Embassy in New Zealand, under the 150 Years of U.S.–New Zealand Scientific Collaboration Small Grants Program. The programme celebrates a century and a half of shared scientific exploration and discovery between the two nations.
Special thanks to the Air Force Museum of New Zealand for their generous support and for hosting this event.
