Taking on a leadership role is always challenging, but taking on a leadership role at a prominent organisation can be even more difficult. And what if that organisation is under operational pressure? As part of this unique panel, the Global CFO Network will explore the qualities needed to lead iconic organisations, and to position them for sustainable, long-term growth. Our panel includes leaders from different fields who’ve taken on that challenge and succeeded, including Nicky Gumbel, the man who - on being appointed Vicar of the Church of England parish of Holy Trinity Brompton - proceeded to change the way the world views the church, Rebecca Salter, the first female President of the Royal Academy, and Jorge Mendonça, who leads Gascoyne Estates, which manages the land and property interests of the Cecil family on behalf of the Marquess of Salisbury. Nicky grew the congregation and geographic reach of what’s now better known as HTB at a time when the Church of England was in decline, and has expanded the work internationally through the popular Alpha course, with 24 million attendees worldwide. Rebecca - a printmaker who has worked in the UK and Japan - represents the Royal Academicians, and has led the organisation through challenging time during and after the pandemic. Jorge is an experienced senior executive who’s channeled years of experience leading large organisations - including the Duke of Westminster’s Grosvenor estate - into building a lasting legacy for a landed estate that includes Hatfield House, Cranborne Manor, extensive agricultural holdings, and significant holdings in Central London, with a history dating back to the 1500s. Nicky and Jorge will be joined by prominent leaders in other fields, all of whom have successfully tackled the challenge of leading iconic organisations.
