Sat, 26 Jul, 11am - 5pm AEST

Event description

Learn the foundations of filmmaking by working hands-on with real 16mm film — no screens, just cameras, light, lenses, and motion. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to load and shoot with a 16mm film camera, and get an introduction to how 16mm film is developed and projected.

This is a one-day, all-in, shoot-and-develop 16mm filmmaking workshop held in North Melbourne—designed for curious people who want to touch, load, shoot, and make something real.

You’ll get introduced to the world of analog filmmaking using 16mm Bolex H16 cameras among others.

No prior experience needed—just a willingness to experiment.

Together, we’ll:

  • Learn how 16mm cameras work—inside and out

  • Load and shoot colour positive Ektachrome 16mm film

  • Use light meters (and apps) to expose your shots properly

  • Team up and shoot short films in small groups

  • Hand-develop your footage using DIY chemistry

  • Watch your developed film projected by the end of the day

  • Receive a digital scan of your film footage after the workshop

You’ll leave with practical skills, your own processed film, and a deeper understanding of analog cinema—from start to finish.

It’s fast, hands-on, and full of the joyful imperfection that only real film can offer.

🎟️ All equipment + materials are included:
+ 16mm camera use
