1769 Seed Archive Tour, with garden curator Malcolm Rutherford
1769 Seed Archive, Waikereru Ecosanctuary
Waimata, New Zealand
Event description
Walk with curator Malcolm Rutherford through the 1769 Seed Archive, where plants first noted by Banks and Solander on Cook’s voyage to Aotearoa grow beside species long valued by Māori for food, medicine, tools, and weaving. Hear how these plants drew the eye of European botanists and how their stories connect with Māori knowledge and tradition.
This tour will include some history, practical plant uses, and the occasional obscure botanical detail.
There is no cell phone reception on site.
There is a composting toilet.
