Set in 1950s Mexico City, the film centres on William Lee, an American expatriate in his late forties, who has been living an isolated life within a small community of fellow ex-pats. His world changes when he encounters Eugene Allerton, a vibrant young student who encourages Lee to step out of his emotional isolation and form a meaningful bond. Their developing relationship delves into themes of yearning, love, and self-identity, as Lee starts to break free from his solitary existence.
