If you answered yes to any of these questions, this no-cost, 2-day in-person short course might be for you! The Sustainable Environment team at City of Whittlesea Council is offering this training to select community members who want to educate others about energy efficiency.

Expressions of interest are currently open until 31 January 2024 for this non-accredited short course which provides a well-rounded understanding of home energy efficiency and comfort. The goal for participants is to become an "energy hero" who can share information within their community and networks.

Join Lucinda Flynn, accredited scorecard assessor and energy efficiency trainer, of Going Green Solutions for this 2-day short course. The course is aimed at people who already have an interest in and a basic understanding of the concepts behind home energy efficiency, but who want to increase the depth of their understanding. Attendees will be urged to share their knowledge afterwards, either through casual conversations, community group meetings, or by offering a volunteer energy advisory service (as part of a clean energy group for example). Attendees will be expected to respond to the City of Whittlesea contact with updates on how many presentations they have completed over 6 months.

This two-day course will entail a broad overview of topics, plus a half day application of knowledge by assessing the host location Mernda Neighborhood House for its energy efficiency and thermal comfort.

Please note:

The training is capped at 15 people so a selection process will be used to ensure a diversity of communities and demographics are represented across the municipality. Selected trainees will be asked to report back in 6 months on their energy hero experiences and information sharing activities.
Sessions will run from 9am-4pm each day.
This workshop is for those aged 18+.
Lunch will be provided both days. (Please note your dietary needs when you register.)

During each course, participants will learn about:

The context of home energy efficiency in Vic
Defining ‘energy efficiency’
Key aspects of a home's impact on energy efficiency and comfort
The movement towards all-electric – why and how?
Identifying a range of upgrade opportunities and the priority order in which they should be undertaken for the best advantage to the householder, under different budgets (building shell and appliance upgrades)
Energy generation (solar, tariffs, load shifting)

How to track energy use – online portals, home energy monitor
Brief overview of the nationwide tool, Energy Scorecard
Rebates and financial incentives
