2021 Canterbury Tech Late-Career Mentor Programme 3 (Application Period)
Event description
Canterbury Tech wants to grow world-class talent for our local Tech Sector. This mentoring programme is for professionals working in Canterbury, New Zealand’s technology industry. Many successful people credit one or more mentors who made a big impact in helping them achieve early success.
NOTE: We are limiting this programme to 40 applicants.
This mentor programme, back by popular demand, is based on the 2019 Canterbury Tech Winter Mentor programme set up by Roger Nesbitt. Our 2020 mentor programme sold out. This year, our 2021 Canterbury Tech programme has added a programme for tech people later in their career.
If you are preparing to leave the paid tech workforce, or have recently left, this Late Career programme is for you.
This programme is structured as a series of one on one, one-hour coffee meetings with a variety of people in the same situation as yourself, to share ideas and augment your tech networking. To apply you could be someone, in the tech industry, expecting to retire soon, or someone cutting back their work hours, to adjust their work-life balance. Sometimes this transition can be challenging, to both find places to use your skills, time, money and interests effectively, and to adjust to a different community.
To make effective use of this programme, you will need to have empathy for people leaving the paid-work realm. For example, if you have had a tech career and experienced some of the challenges of the transition to retirement. Or you have reduced your working hours to leave space for volunteer or time. You will have a lot to contribute based on doing this yourself.
Important note: This programme is NOT designed to give you financial advice, to provide vacation advice or to find a paid new job. It is to give you a chance to talk through the decisions you are making. We will provide notes to step you through the process.
The cost is free.
