Event description

This evening will consist of evening prayers and a choral service, followed by the oration.

Faith and Justice in a Secular Age

The cry for systemic justice to create an Australia free of poverty has driven BSL far beyond its first vision as a ministry of the Anglican Church. Since the earliest years, allies of different faiths (or no faith) have collaborated through this shared vision, but in 90 years much has changed in both the religious and welfare dimensions of Australian society. Where is the place of faith in the quest for social justice in contemporary secular Australia? How does Father Tucker’s founding vision for Anglican ministry translate into an open and generous advocacy by a community of allies which is at once secular and spiritual?

The oration will be delivered by Rev’d Dr. Michelle Trebilcock

Rev'd Dr. Michelle Trebilcock joined BSL as Chaplain in 2016. She works with staff, volunteers and participants within the BSL community to cultivate their calling within the BSL mission and care for them as they care for others. Michelle’s post-graduate studies explored complex questions of transformational thinking and social change, particularly in its relationship to spirituality and the inner life of individuals and groups.
