The JSRB Bel Canto Award is one of Australia's most prestigious singing competitions for classical voice, having been established in 2011. The competition is open to all singers from Australia and New Zealand aged 20-32. Since inception, the competition has enabled dozens of singers to enter the operatic profession through its generous scholarship programme which, to date, has awarded over $1million in scholarships. Six Bel Canto Singers will each perform two arias competing for a $30,000 first prize.Â
Accompanied by: Bradley Gilchrist Compere: Dr Robert Mitchell
But first, the afternoon will begin with the finalists of the Sydney International Song Prize. Each singer and accompanist duo will present a 15-20 minute recital programme of art song. Both singer and pianist will be judged on their programme and duetting ability hoping to claim the $3,000 first prizes. This is Sydney's premiere Song competition whose aim is to encourage the performance of art song which is so vital for all young singers and pianists.Â
