The Spirit of the Ride

There's something magical about the annual Mandurah Murray Christmas Charity Bike Ride. It's more than just a gathering of bike enthusiasts, it's a vibrant display of community spirit, a testament to human generosity, and an unforgettable celebration of the holiday season. We believe this event, steeped in tradition, is the largest Christmas Toy Run in Western Australia.

In 2023, we are marking its 32nd year, a significant milestone that nearly didn't happen. Just a year ago, we were faced with the daunting prospect of having to cancel the event entirely and has experienced its fair share of trials and triumphs over this past year. But, true to the resilient spirit of our community, we fought to keep the tradition alive, and we succeeded. It's a testament to just how much this event means to us.

Our battle was rewarded grandly. In 2022, we saw a record-breaking 703 bikes participating in the event. Each rider brought their own unique flair through their bike decorations and costumes along with their desire to put smiles on the faces of our community members. It was a sight to behold, and we're working hard to ensure that the 2023 event is just as spectacular, if not more so.

Our Route: From Pinjarra to the Western Foreshore

The journey begins in the quaint, historic town of Pinjarra. Riders gather, their bikes all polished & gleaming in the morning sun, their hearts filled with anticipation & excitement. The decorated bikes, riders, passengers & furbabies are spectacular. As the ride begins, the town is filled with the echoing rumble of engines, a symphony of solidarity. The route takes us along Pinjarra Road, onto Wanjeep Street, travelling onto Hudson Drive, through the beautiful, tranquil neighbourhood of Dudley Park, where residents line the streets to cheer us on. Their support is a reminder of the warmth and unity that this event fosters.

The ride culminates on the vibrant Western Foreshore of Mandurah. It's here that we gather to celebrate, not just the end of the ride, but the spirit of giving that is at the heart of our event. The atmosphere is electric, the beachside air filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the scent of the sea. It's a fitting end to our ride, a place where the community can come together to share in the joy of the season.

But the ride is just the beginning. The Western Foreshore becomes a hub of activity, with food vans tantalising aromas wafting through the air, a sausage sizzle that's become a much-loved tradition as well as plenty of coffee & sweets. Stalls offer local crafts and products, and the Show N Shine event showcases an impressive array of Vintage & Classic Cars & Bikes in all their polished glory.

More than Just a Ride: A Community Celebration

The Mandurah Murray Christmas Charity Bike Ride has always been more than just a ride. It's an event for the whole community, a day filled with activities and entertainment for all ages. The Kids Korner is a special highlight, with face painting, a myriad of fun activities, and an ice-cream van that's always a hit. It's a day for families to come together, to share in the spirit of the season, and to aid in giving a Christmas to so many families.

Our event also highlights the tireless work of our emergency services volunteers. Volunteer Fire Trucks are a staple at our event, a symbol of our gratitude to those who keep us safe & a big hit with those both young & old. SES volunteers also join us assisting with traffic control & more. Their presence is a reminder of the selflessness and dedication that underpin our community.

But the true heart of our event is the act of giving. Every year, we encourage participants and spectators alike to donate food, toys, and cash. These contributions go straight back into our community, helping those in need during the holiday season. It's a beautiful embodiment of the spirit of Christmas, and a reminder of the power of community.
