Categories

a) The Miriam Hyde Open Award - No age limit.

Open to students of MTASA members.

The member must be the competitor's principal teacher for the instrument.

b) The Miriam Hyde Junior Award - Age limit: 15 years and under.

Open to students of MTASA members.

The member must be the competitor's principal teacher for the instrument.

Award/Scholarship values

Miriam Hyde Open Award: $500 (1st), $200 (2nd).

Miriam Hyde Junior Award: $300 (1st), $100 (2nd).

Eligibility

Previous 1st prize winners of Miriam Hyde (Open & Junior) are not eligible to enter.

The Council reserves the right to accept or reject entries after the closing date.

Competitors must submit work titles and timings at the time of entry. Changes are allowed up to 14 days prior to the event.

Rules

Miriam Hyde Open Award

  • Three composers, must include one by Miriam Hyde.
  • Baroque/Classical, Romantic/Modern, and Miriam Hyde** categories.
  • At least one work to be played from memory.
  • Time limit: Max 20 minutes.
  • Performance standards: Grade 7 AMEB or equivalent.

Miriam Hyde Junior Award

  • Three composers, must include one by Miriam Hyde.
  • Baroque/Classical, Romantic/Modern, and Miriam Hyde** categories.
  • At least one work to be played from memory.
  • Time limit: Min 8 minutes, max 15 minutes.
  • Performance standards: Grade 4 AMEB or equivalent (no upper limit).

Copyright requirements:

Entrants must complete the entry form via Humanitix and provide the following on the day

a) APRA AMCOS Form No 1.

b) An additional original copy of the music or a photocopy with completed APRA AMCOS Form No 2 for the adjudicator.

Conditions

  • Late entry: The Council reserves the right to accept or reject entries after the closing date.
  • No coaching allowed during performance.
  • No still or video photography or audio recording allowed during performance due to copyright reasons.
  • Competitors or their representative must check in and bring copies of their music at least 10 minutes before the session start time.
  • The scholarship will not be awarded if an acceptable standard is not attained.
  • The competition requires a minimum of four entries to be held.
  • Competitors must be present for the adjudicator's final summary and announcement of winners.
  • The adjudicator's decision is final. The Music Teachers' Association of SA Inc. assumes no responsibility for the decision.
