Event description

This year, our club is going to join the City of Yarra who are hosting a community planting day on Sunday 30th of July to celebrate the biodiversity work that is being carried out by volunteers to restore this special wildlife corridor along the banks of the Birrarung.

Tree planting is one of the important events for our club. Raising the next generation to be conscious of valuing its environment, and planting trees are one of the greatest lessons we can guide our children today. By connecting to the local environment and community, children will demonstrate an increasing knowledge of, and respect for natural and constructed environments as we also model respect, care and appreciation for the natural environment.

Come and join us at the Wurundjeri Scar tree on the banks of the Birrarung for a welcome to country ceremony before planting begins! The Scar tree is located between the bike path and Melbourne Girls' College near the ramp adjacent to the pontoon on the west side of the Birrarung.

What to wear: Please dress for the weather and with sensible shoes.

What to bring: Bring a water bottle and gardening gloves.

The following will be provided: Gloves, Tools and equipment for planting.

Lions Club of Melbourne Next Gen would like to acknowledge the traditional lands of (Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung) people as the Traditional Owners of the land and waterways, and we would like to pay our respect to Elders both past and present. We extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here today.
