Event description

Join us to honour 2023 Sydney Peace Prize recipient Nazanin Boniadi and the #WomanLifeFreedom Movement.

The 2023 Peace Prize Award Ceremony and Lecture will honour the #WomanLifeFreedom movement in Iran and across the globe: a woman-led movement that erupted following the death of 21 year-old Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini at the hands of Iran's morality police.

The movement continues today as Iranian people are jailed, threatened and killed for dissenting to authoritarian rule.

Iranian-born activist Nazanin Boniadi has dedicated her powerful platform to promoting freedom and justice for the people of Iran
, in the face of growing authoritarian rule.

She has advocated at the highest levels to the US and UK governments, at the United Nations and at the World Economic Forum in opposition to what she terms the 'gender apartheid' Iranian regime.

She is a Global Amnesty Ambassador focused on women's rights and a Screen Actor’s Guild and AACTA Award-nominated actress.

This unmissable event will feature a range of leaders and advocates alongside Nazanin Boniadi herself, including:

  • Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, leading political scientist and expert in Middle East. Dr Gilbert was held for 804 days in prison in Iran and is Author of 'The Uncaged Sky: My 804 Days in an Iranian Prison'.
  • Shokoofeh Azar, Iranian-Australian author and journalist. Her novel, 'The Enlightenment of the Greenage Tree', boasts both International Booker Prize and Stella Prize nominations.
  • Gelareh Pour, acclaimed Iranian-born singer and songwriter, whose new album ZOJ launches on 15th November! Check out her powerful music of resistance
  • Sam Klintworth, National Director Amnesty International Australia
  • Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of Sydney
  • Kween G Kibone, musician and community activist - who will entertain us with her women's rights and social justice infused tunes
