Crafternoon for a Cause - Jelly Art

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Learn to make floral art inside a bowl of crystal carrageenan and agar agar jelly. All the tools, colours, equipment, and bowl of jelly which will be your canvas, are included. The teacher will be showing you each step and there will be a helper wandering the floor to assist if you get stuck. Each participant gets 2 pre-made bowls of clear carrageenan jelly as their canvases and can choose 4 colours to create the flower art inside the bowl. The finished jelly art is a colourful flower trapped inside a crystal dome. You will take home your jellies, 2 glass bowls to carry them in, and 1 set of jelly art tools, so you can keep this hobby going.

It will be a fun afternoon with 30 minutes either side of the lesson for guests to chat and get settled while listening to some relaxing background music. Learning to make jelly art is also a lesson in Trusting the Process; you will see how a nervous first step can bloom into something beautiful!

Where does the money go?

This is a charity fundraiser for the End Polio Now campign run by Rotary International. After material expenses, 90% of the ticket sales and every donation will go towards helping Rotary International to obtain the support, transport and materials needed in the fight against polio. Polio mainly affects children under age 5. There is no cure, but polio is preventable with a vaccine. Only two countries remain endemic. We have reduced cases by 99.9% since 1988. Until we erradicate polio forever, every child is at risk.

The remaining 10% of proceeds go towards Rotary Elizabeth Quay, to keep the club thriving.
