    Event description

Exploring potential & challenges of environmental DNA

    Speaker: Vilma Perez

Topic:  DNA preserved in environmental samples, such as subsurface sediments and soil (environmental DNA), is a powerful tool for collecting genomic information from a wide range of species, including humans. In this presentation, I will discuss the potential of this field, while also addressing the challenges that require careful consideration in any research involving environmental DNA.

Brief:  Vilma is a microbial ecologist at the Australian Centre for Ancient DNA, UoA. Her research focuses on reconstructing microbial communities from present and past environments using environmental DNA techniques. Her objective is to use this information as bioindicators, providing insights into how environments have changed or responded to disturbances over time.

This session will be recorded and shared with those who register.

    Series details

The seminar series aims to provide those with interests in Indigenous Genomics research to improve and develop their knowledge and understanding across the key topics. The seminars aim to provide a broad spectrum of topics across the field.

An up to date list of seminar speakers and their planned topics will be available on the ALIGN website
