Update: September 25 2024 - Ticket sales closed.

If you would still like to attend, please email hello@agta24.au. We are able to accommodate attending the conference sessions, but the dinner may be unavailable.

The Australian Geography Teachers Association is the peak body for professional teaching associations for geography educators operating across Australia. Collectively, AGTA member associations provide a voice for geography education at a national level with reach across all states and sectors.

Every second year, the AGTA national conference is hosted by a member organisation. In 2024, the conference will be hosted by the Geography & History Teachers Association of the Northern Territory (GHTANT) in Darwin from October 2 to 4 2024 for the very first time.

Our program is under development. Our program focus will be:

New directions in geography teaching in Australia
Geography pedagogy and program support
Australian Indigenous perspectives
Relationships with South East Asia and beyond
Tropical environments
Weather hazards and the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy
And much more

Our conferences include fieldwork as a key element. Our fieldwork trips are also under development, but will likely include:

National parks - Kakadu and Litchfield
Crocodiles - farming and tourism
Wetlands and mangroves
Top End food and drink
Indigenous knowledges

GHTANT is excited to showcase the Top End's unique human and physical geography to educators from around Australia. Darwin’s rich Aboriginal culture, its proximity to Asia, our tropical climate and significance for the economic development of northern Australia will create a fantastic professional learning event.

We hope you will join us in supporting this event!

NT teachers - email hello@ghtant.org.au for reduced pricing

PTANT has provided some funding to subsidise the cost for NT teachers to attend the conference.
