You can represent Deakin at the 2024 UniSport Nationals Surfing Championship.

Event Details

Dates: 10-12 July 2024

City: Sunshine Coast

Deakin Team Accommodation: Shared accommodation will be booked from 9-13 July, 2024.

Costs

Students that represent Deakin in this event cover the following costs:

DUSA Payment: $250 includes 4 nights share accommodation, insurance, off-field uniform kit.

UniSport Payment:         $160-$235 depending on how early you complete your registration.

Travel costs:                    All travel is arranged and paid by the student.

Extras:                              All incidentals and meals are at the students’ expense.

UniSport Nationals events provide students a great opportunity to represent their university while connecting with fellow student athletes on a trip together. We encourage you to have a good look through the event website including the event schedule. You can also view photos from last year’s event.

Surfing Disciplines

In 2024, Surfing will be contested in the following disciplines:

  • Men’s Shortboard
  • Women’s Shortboard
  • Men’s Longboard
  • Women’s Longboard
  • Mixed Teams Challenge

Team Manager

While at the event, the team will be managed by Deakin student, Leo Cooper. Leo competed in the event in 2023 and will also be competing in the event in 2024. If you have any questions regarding the competition, please feel free to contact him:

Once you are confirmed in the team, Leo will set up a group chat so the team can communicate before the event, share your travel plans, share Ubers, hire cars, etc. Stack Team App will be used by DUSA to communicate to the team at the event.

Leo has offered to chat to anyone wondering if they are/aren’t up to the standard to compete in the event. If you are unsure, please feel free to reach out to him on the number below before applying.

How can I apply to represent Deakin?

Register and pay with DUSA before the 23rd April 2024. 

Due Dates/Timeline:

23rd April:         DUSA Payment and registration closes at 11.59pm.

24th April:           Your place in the team will be confirmed via email and your accommodation booked. At this point your DUSA payment becomes non-refundable. You will be provided with a team code to then register for the event with UniSport.

24th April:           Begin registering for the event with UniSport. Link via this page

28th April:           Unisport early bird registrations close.

26th May:            UniSport standard registrations close.

25th June:           All UniSport registrations close.

If you don’t have the DUSA registration fee by the closing date, you have the option to sign up to a Zip pay program before the closing date. More info here: https://zip.co/au/store/humanitix

Due to uniform and Unisport deadlines, DUSA are unable to stretch out the due dates.

Uniforms

DUSA will order you an off-field kit.

Transport

All students are to arrange their own transport to and from the event as well as while on the Sunshine Coast. The team can communicate to arrange ride shares, etc.

Accommodation

At close of DUSA registrations, we will book shared accommodation for the team and communicate details as soon as possible.

Academic Extension Requests

The event takes place in Week 1 of Trimester 2. If you need to apply to your Unit Chair for any extensions, please follow the process outlined below:

1. CLICK HERE to access the automated online request form.

2. A letter of participation containing the inputted information will be automatically generated and sent to you via e-mail.

3. Present the letters(s) of participation to your Unit Chair(s). Extensions are at the Unit Chair’s discretion.
