2024 Farm Field Trips

Price FREE – $300 USD + BF Get tickets

Event description

Bring your class/ club to Common Good for a unique opportunity to see an urban farm in action!

What will you see and do?

Field trip topics include: plant needs, composting, vegetable harvesting, insects and pollinators, food justice and nutrition. Students are engaged in hands on activities on the farm in order to reinforce learning. Tasks and activities will differ for different age groups.

Field trips can be tailored to specific class requests and the material covered meets DCPS standards.

When can I come?

Field trips are 1.5 hours long and are held from April through early November.

Choose your start time during checkout.  Field trips can begin from 9am-10:30 am.

How many kids/ classes can come on the field trip?

We can accommodate a maximum of 30 students for a single-class field trip. For larger groups or the option to bring two classes on the same day, we provide a split field trip arrangement. This involves one group spending time on the farm while the other enjoys the adjacent park playground with school chaperones, and then they switch. Each group will have a one-hour farm visit, resulting in a full visit time of 2 hours from the selected start time.

What are the costs?
To enhance accessibility, and with the support of generous grant funding, we are delighted to provide complimentary field trips to DC public and public charter schools, as well as DC Title 1 schools. If your group isn't a school, but the majority of your students attend institutions falling within these categories, you may still be eligible for a free field trip.

For those who don't qualify for a complimentary field trip, our fee is $250 per visit for a single class or $300 for the two-class split visit option.

Registration allows for full payment or a $50 deposit to hold your date.

Schools are responsible for arranging their own transport to the farm, which is accessible via Metro (Shaw-Howard stop) and several Metro bus routes.

For any questions, or if you wish to discuss your school's specific needs, please contact emily@commongoodcityfarm.org

FAQs

My program/ camp/ club isn't associated with a specific school, how do I know if we qualify for a free field trip?

We are happy to take groups from summer camps and other organizations that may not be a traditional classroom. We can work with your group details to assess an appropriate fee or determine whether you may qualify for a free field trip.

Do you take field trips on dates that are not listed?

We are happy to work with you to find other date and time options. Due to other programming on the farm, this is not always possible but we will try to make it work. Reach out to emily@commongoodcityfarm.org to check our schedule.

What is the rain/ bad weather policy?

If weather conditions are dangerous, then we will cancel and do our best to find a time that works to reschedule. If not dangerous, but just rainy or cold, we will defer to the group on whether they would like to come in the predicted weather or aim to reschedule.
