    Event description

Join us for the 2024 Fishermans Bend Digital Innovation Challenge 'A Regenerative City' Pitch Night to hear three big ideas that can drive a thriving and circular Melbourne.

Fishermans Bend is Australia’s largest urban renewal project covering approximately 480 hectares in the heart of Melbourne. This urban renewal project provides an exciting opportunity to collaboratively explore how we can harness data and emerging technologies to enable our city spaces to thrive now and in the future.

We invited entrepreneurs, individuals, universities, researchers, startup, scaleups and organisations to submit their creative applications of data and technology to harness opportunities and solve challenges in our future city spaces like Fishermans Bend. The Digital Innovation Challenge ran from 16 April to 13 June 2024. After eight weeks of events including Data Drop-in Days, pitch training and mentoring, 33 submissions were received.

The top three finalists were decided after several stages of assessment against the Challenge criteria. Ecoacoustic sensors, street-side worm farming and micro-recycling hubs featuring in our top three ideas. Learn more here: https://participate.melbourne.vic.gov.au/fishermans-bend-digital-innovation-challenge-2024/finalists

The pitches will battle it out to win over the judges and the community, with the winner getting $90,000 and the opportunity to work with City of Melbourne team to bring their idea to life in 2025.

Refreshments and food will be provided. The event is free, with registration required. This is a wheelchair accessible venue. Auslan will be offered upon request, please contact us at smart.cities@melbourne.vic.gov.au. Image by Mari Adams, Calamari Pictures.
