    Event description

Join the below members of the ISLAND project team for the evening and hear about our recent research. The presentation will run from 5.30-6.30, with an opportunity to ask questions at the end and light refreshments provided from 5pm.

    Professor Anna King

Brain proteins are present in the blood in very small amounts and new technologies have meant that we can now detect these proteins. This has led to the possibilities of being able to diagnose dementia and measure brain health through a blood test. Prof Anna King will present work being undertaken through the ISLAND project to develop brain biomarkers through a blood test. This work is made possible through the biennial blood samples we collect from participants.

    Dr Duncan Sinclair

Dr Duncan Sinclair will provide an update on the Resilience Study, which may participants are involved in as a sub-study of the ISLAND project.

    Dr Hannah Fair

Although ISLAND members are making great progress towards reducing their dementia risk, for us to see significant changes in rates of dementia across our society, we need more people, especially those with higher-risk starting points, to make risk-reducing changes in their lives. With the help of some of our ISLAND participants, Hannah (and her colleagues Ignacio, Claire, Kathleen and Alex) have designed items that we expect will help people share their dementia risk knowledge. Hannah will talk about her previous research into the role of social networks in dementia risk education, the collaborative design process she has undertaken, and the finished products she is now testing the impact of.
