2024 Junk Art Sculpture Competition - Loxton Arts on Terrace

Event description

Create an amazing sculpture using only recycled, reused, reclaimed, discarded or salvaged materials.

Imagination and innovation are key to transforming plastic, metal, fabric, glass, wood or any old junk into your prize winning piece!

Entries/registrations open 1st June and close on Friday 2nd August 2024. 

All entrants must register and pay the $10 entry fee via Humanitix. 

Sculptures will be on display for judging on Sunday 11th August 2024 from 10am-3pm.

Conditions of Entry
• The competition is open to anyone (professional, amateur or emerging artist).
• Maximum 2 entries per person.
• There is a non-refundable entry fee of $10 per entry.
• Entries/registrations open 1st June 2024 and close 5pm Friday 2nd August 2024.
• Entries must be completed and paid for online via Humanitix and must include Artist Statement

• Entries will be accepted in 3 categories:
Open (18+) METAL - sculpture must be made predominantly from recycled metal.
Other materials can be used but must not be the feature or main material of the piece.
Open (18+) - OTHER MATERIAL(s) - sculpture can be made from any other recycled material(s).
Metal may be incorporated but must not be the feature or main material of the piece.
Teen/Youth (13-18 years old) - sculpture can be made from ANY recycled/reused material(s).
• Categories will be judged separately, and a People’s Choice prize voted on and awarded to ONE entry
on the day. The people’s choice winner may be from ANY of the above categories.
• Cash Prizes will be:
Open (18+) METAL - Winner $800, Merit $350
Open (18+) OTHER MATERIAL(s)- Winner $800, Merit $350
Teen/Youth - Winner $250, Merit $100
People’s Choice award - $350
• A minimum of 5 entries per category must be received for sculptures to be judged and prizes awarded.
• The judges’ decision on the day is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
• All sculptures must be composed of predominately discarded, salvaged, reused or recycled materials
and as per the category they are entered into.
• Sculptures must not have previously been entered in this competition.
• Sculptures will be judged on originality, creativity, construction, use of materials and technical ability.
• Materials for sticking, fixing, joining, gluing etc. may be new, but take the challenge to recycle, reclaim,
borrow etc. where possible.
• Sculpture must be no larger than 2m (length) x 1.5m (width) x 1.5m (height). Actual size to be
indicated on Entry/registration.
• Sculpture to be freestanding or self-supporting. Indicate preference of tabletop or floor on entry form
to assist with allocation of display space. *Protection must be used to safeguard floor tiles.
• All decisions pertaining to the display of the sculptures is at the discretion of the competition
organiser.
• In the event that a sculpture is deemed unsuitable or does not meet the competition criteria, the
competition organiser reserves the right to withdraw it from the competition.

Any work that is cultural appropriation of First Nations peoples, or symbols, will only be accepted by a
First Nations person, or with permission from a First Nations person.
• Sculptures are entered and exhibited at the artists’ own risk. The competition organiser accepts no
responsibility/liability for any damage incurred to the sculpture during the exhibition. It is the artists
responsibility to arrange insurance protection for the sculpture if deemed necessary.
• All sculptures are required to be displayed for judging at Riverland Motor Group, 1 East Terrace
on Sunday 11h August 2024 between 10am and 3pm.
• Winners will be announced at 1:30pm on the day.
• Sculptures can be delivered and set up at Riverland Ford, 1 East Terrace Loxton, on either:
Saturday 10th August 2023 from 3pm - 5pm, or
Sunday 11th August 2023 from 9am - 10am.
• Sculptures must be collected at close of competition on Sunday 11h August 2024 between 3pm -
4pm. Sculptures not collected during this time will be disposed of.
• Artists agree to their names and images of their entries being used for promotional purposes both now
and into the future
