2024 NZ Classical Saxophone Summer School
Event description
Registration is now open for the 2024 NZ Classical Saxophone Summer School!
We are super excited to return to the stunning Puritawa Estate in beautiful Taranaki, from the 26th till the 28th of January.
NZ Classical Saxophone Summer School
The weekend will be packed with workshops, masterclasses, ensemble rehearsals and concerts (including opportunities for participants to perform!). You’ll be able to learn from incredible tutors: Niels Bijl, Michael Jamieson, Simon Brew, and Tomomi Johnston. All highly accomplished musicians and regular players with Auckland Philharmonia and NZ Symphony Orchestra.
The Summer School will open with a concert by our tutors on Friday night (7.30 pm 26th January), and finish on the 28th January with a participants lunch concert.
Who is it for?
The Summer School is open to everyone over 16 years of age. We welcome all levels of experience. However, a general minimum of around grade 5-6 is recommended to get the most from the experience. If you’re not sure, feel free to get in touch with us!
If you already have your own ensemble (duo, quartet, quintet etc.) that’s fantastic – bring it along. But if not, don’t worry, we will arrange groups for you all to play in. Everyone can also join in the full saxophone ensemble.
Participant fee
The cost for the Summer School $370 and includes all food, accommodation and tuition for the weekend. Food will be provided from dinner on Friday until breakfast on Sunday. Accommodation is for Friday and Saturday nights at the Estate, in shared bedrooms.
Early-bird price of $350 is available for everybody who registers before Christmas. Places are limited and will be on a first-in-first-served basis.
Travel to the venue
Puritawa Estate an easy 20-minute drive to New Plymouth Airport, and we can arrange pick up / drop off for you, if you are travelling by plane. There will be several people driving from the larger centres, so feel free to arrange car-pooling. Please note that you will need to cover your own travel to and from New Plymouth.
