Event description

Invitation to Samhain

Samhain is the third harvest in the wheel of the year and here in Melbourne it is Wombat season, Samhain is celebrated in late April in the southern hemisphere. In the norther hemisphere it is celebrated on the 31st October as Halloween.

The third harvest is the last time to gather food before we descend into the winter. We gather the final fruits and the wood that will keep us warm for the next months. It is a time to reflect on what we planted in the spring and how we cared for the crops we had.

At Samhain, the darkness increases and the Goddess reigns in her powerful aspect of the Crone, the aged one. In Celtic belief at Samhain the veil between the worlds is thinnest making it possible to communicate with those who have already gone from this Earth; it is a time when the may ancestors return to pass on messages to those who would listen.

Who do you want to remember and honour on this night? Who is it who has influenced, guided and supported your walk on this earth? Please bring a photo or something to represent an ancestor who you would like to honour to place on the altar.
