Australia has a rich history of world-leading researchers of the ancient world, its languages, literature, thought, history, art and civilisations. The Trendall Lecture celebrates this long tradition and reminds us of the deep and continuing relevance of the ancient world and late antiquity to modern life.
The Trendall Lecture alternates each year between an Australian and an international early or mid-career researcher who exemplifies distinguished scholarship in the Classics and is presented in partnership between the Australasian Society for Classical Studies Conference (ASCS) and the Australian Academy of the Humanities
Speaker:
Associate Professor Caitlín Eilís (Caitie) Barrett
is an archaeologist who investigates everyday life, religious experience, and cross-cultural interactions in the
ancient Mediterranean. She is currently co-directing an excavation at Pompeii – the Casa della Regina Carolina
(CRC) Project (http://blogs.cornell.edu/crcpompeii), a joint Italian/American
project sponsored by Cornell University and the University of Bologna – and working on a new book about the
archaeology of ancient Greek household religion.
