Event description

The UTS Writers' Anthology is proud to have been showcasing the work of emerging Australian writers from the University of Technology Sydney's prestigious Creative Writing program at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for over four decades.

The 2024 edition of the UTS Writer's Anthology - Blood & Bone has just been published and the student editorial committee would like to share their experience of editing this year's anthology.

For students of one of Australia's best known creative writing programs, the annual anthology is an opportunity to have their work published, usually for the very first time. What makes this anthology even more special is that its editorial committee is also comprised of students. Six students are selected to put together an anthology of works that is professionally published.

Being on this committee is a learning experience that goes beyond the academic. Working with emerging writers, the university and the publisher, there were wins and pitfalls along the way. We are keen to share the lessons we learnt which we believe will help anyone editing a collection, or for emerging writers submitting to one.

Join us for this panel discussion where we discuss the process of producing the anthology from the perspective of both writers and editors. We will run through the process from selection into the committee, reading the anonymous submitted works, voting and selecting pieces, editing (and editing and editing), choosing title and cover design, promotions, launch and everything in between!

This event is part of the UTS FASStival 2024 program.
