Event description

The why-omics of cardiometabolic disease

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death globally and a focus of the Black Ochre Data Lab’s work. This presentation will give a whistlestop tour of cardiovascular disease, why it receives such focus within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing research and policy, and the potential of omics.

Katharine Brown is a non-Indigenous woman living and working on Kaurna country, and postdoctoral research fellow in the Indigenous Cardiovascular Research program with The Kids Research Institute Australia. Katharine’s research draws on her experiences in advocacy, policy and translational research to respond to the disparities in cardiovascular health and disease experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
