Make your own upcycled bucket or sun hat with expert sewer Jan Black in this fun, beginner-friendly sewing workshop at Central Craft!

Join Central Craft’s Saturday sewing whiz, Jan Black — the most sought-after sewer in Mparntwe/Alice Springs — for a fun and practical hat-making workshop! Learn to make your own bucket or sun hat, with expert guidance and the option to bring your own sewing machine to gain confidence working with your own tools. Ideal for beginners and experienced stitchers alike.
WHAT TO BRING
Closed-toe shoes
Snack + water bottle
BYO sewing machine (optional – 5 available onsite)
Fabric to upcycle (e.g. old t-shirt, teatowel, towel – or browse fabrics in our retail store)
WHATS PROVIDED
Sewing pattern
Use of sewing machines (if needed)
All essential sewing equipment and supplies
Spare fabric (if you forget yours!)

ACCESS
This workshop involves fine motor skills (e.g. threading needles, hand stitching). If you require support to participate, you're welcome to attend with a support person. Please contact us in advance to dicuss any access needs.

With a lifetime of experience behind the machine, Jan's expertise spans custom wedding dresses, film costumes, tailoring, mending, tutoring and more. Her passion for sewing is matched only by her dedication to sharing it with others.
