Frequently Asked Questions
I don't know anyone – Can I attend Queer Youth Soiree on my own?
Definitely! The event is super welcoming, and conducive to making heaps of new friends – expect loads of activities to make you feel welcome and safe.
What’s the dress code?
At this event loads of attendees do like to dress up! So, feel free to come dolled up!
This year's theme is Western, so come dressed as your favourite western icon.
Do I have to dress up?
At the end of the day, we want you to feel comfortable and fabulous – so dress in whatever makes you feel that way!
What if I find out I can't make it anymore?
You'll be missed, but if that's the case, please unregister your ticket via Humantix so someone else can attend in your place.
Can I bring a plus one if they don't have a ticket?
No, unfortunately only folks who have a ticket can attend! We know how many of you want to attend, and we have pretty strict capacity limits – so if your plus one doesn't have a ticket, they'll need to jump onto the waitlist.
If your plus one is a carer, parent, or guardian, they don’t need a ticket, but you will need to let Hobsons Bay or Brimbank Youth Services know.
Will I need ID to get in? What happens if my name is different to that on my ID?
Yes, you will need to have an ID to get into the event. We will only be checking IDs to ensure that all attendees are in the age bracket (15-22).
When we do, we’ll be looking at the listed age. We want attendees to register in a name that is comfortable for them, and we know how stressful and triggering this can be for trans and gender diverse people.
I’m not much of a dancer, will there be things for me to do away from the dance floor if that’s what makes me feel more comfortable?
YES! There are heaps of activities that you can get involved in away from the dance floor, watch this space as we announce more info!
Can I leave the event and come back?
To protect the safety of our attendees, we don’t allow pass outs. Hope you can understand.
I have specific dietary requirements; will these be catered for?
If you registered your dietary requirements with your ticket, we will capture this with the caterers.
I want to bring along my parent, carers* and/or guardian, are they able to come along?
This is a youth event, and we want to ensure that the vibes are youth friendly and safe on the night.
Brimbank and Hobsons Bay Youth Services are also ensuring that this event will and is complying with the Child Safe Standards.
Though we are open to allowing parents, carers* and/or guardians to attend, this is an event for young people.
If there are parents, carer* and/or guardians who need to be present, then they will be in their own space and be able to bond with other like-minded families on the night. Unfortunately, they will not be given access to the main event space. Please get in touch if you need access to a carer or guardian in the event space.
Please get in contact with Brimbank or Hobsons Bay Youth Services if you are looking to bring a parent, carer* and/or guardian along prior to the event.
Will there be a quiet space for those who may feel anxious and/or are neurodiverse?
Yes! If you feel more comfortable being in a quiet space away from lots of people or need a place to refocus, there will be a designated low sensory space, and other areas with low-medium energy activities.
We recommend wearing a sunflower lanyard to let the staff know you might need some support that isn't always obvious to the human eye. We will also provide a coloured wristband you can choose to wear to communicate if you might be anxious.
Some types of neurodivergence and or anxiety include but are not limited to:
NVLD (Non-verbal learning disorder), ADHD, autism, misophonia, slow processing speed, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety and PTSD/CPTSD.
Big events like this can trigger high emotions and we want you to know that you are welcome here and your attendance is valued and respected. You are not just a number ♥️
