ABOUT POWER IN YOU PROJECT:
In just 8 years, founder and former drug addict Kane Nuttall has grown the organisation from just one staff member - himself - and one client battling addiction to over 35 staff across two locations and over 100 clients.
The Power in You Project is an organisation like no other, with a focus on peer support and leaving judgement at the door. PIYP believe that everyone deserves a second chance, despite working with clients who have complex histories. Not only does this support lift that person out of their darkest moments, but it also makes our region safer.
Kane and the PIYP team's work and peer-focused model has resulted in philanthropic support over the years. However, the demand for addiction, mental health and reintegration support continues to outweigh the resources PIYP has to offer those who need them.
The Charity Gala is a fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going towards free programs run by PIYP.
ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER, NARELLE FRASER:
Narelle was a member of Victoria Police for 27 years, 15 of those as a Detective with squads including Homicide, Rape, Sex Crimes, Missing Persons & Child Exploitation, specialising in sex offences and child abuse. She was involved in many high-profile criminal investigations including Anna & Gracie Sharpe (by ‘Mornington Monster’ John Sharpe), Margaret & Paul Wales-King (the Society Murders), Maria Korp (the body in the boot case), the 2002 Bali Bombing, horrific infanticide investigations, Geoff Clarke (the then ATSIC Commissioner), The Ascot Vale Rapist and many more.
In 2012, Narelle was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and was never able to return to policing, however she overcame many adversities to become a mental health advocate, keynote speaker and host of her own true-crime podcast, ‘Narelle Fraser Interviews’.
Narelle has lectured in Investigative & Interviewer Techniques, Human Rights & Criminology at both Monash University and NMIT and is a policing and mental health commentator on all media platforms (including cruise ships!).
A documentary is being released in 2025 entitled ‘The Policewoman’ covering her extensive career.
We will also hear from PIYP founder & CEO Kane Nuttall during the night.
We look forward to having you join us for a fun, purposeful night!
