Overview
In the lead up to the 2025 WA State Election, Shelter WA’s Election Forum will bring together key representatives across the political spectrum in a moderated discussion to probe how each candidate plans to tackle WA’s housing crisis and ensure the most vulnerable people in our state have a safe, affordable place to call home.
Speakers representing major political parties as well as independent candidates will have the opportunity to give an opening statement outlining their vision on how to boost social and affordable housing and end homelessness in WA. This will be followed by a Q&A session led by experienced moderator, ABC Journalist and Mornings Program presenter, Nadia Mitsopoulos, who will question speakers on their policy platforms. Finally, members of the audience will be given the opportunity to ask the speakers questions through a moderated Q&A.
This event is free and open to all members of the public, but registration is essential.
What you’ll gain from this event
Attendees will hear the different WA candidates' policy commitments and proposed solutions to tackle the housing crisis, including their positions on affordable and social housing, and ending homelessness.
Attendees will also have the opportunity be able to ask WA candidates their own questions. For Shelter WA members, this event will be particularly valuable in highlighting the different candidates' priorities for the sector in the next WA State Government.
Speakers
We are pleased to confirm the following speakers.
- Hon. John Carey MLA, Minister for Planning; Lands; Housing; Homelessness (Australian Labor Party)
- Hon. Steve Martin MLC (Liberal Party)
- Hon. Dr. Brad Pettitt MLC (Greens WA)
- Shane Love MLA (The Nationals WA)
The event will be moderated by ABC Journalist and Mornings Program presenter, Nadia Mitsopoulos.
