2025 IWN Hackathon
Event description
💧 IWN 2025 Hackathon: Gamify to Modify
Following the tremendous success of the inaugural 2024 Hackathon, the IWN 2025 Hackathon is officially GO!
This year’s theme is “Gamify to Modify” — using a publicly available digital metering dataset to design digital products that influence water use.
🔔 Important Updates for 2025
Registrations close three weeks prior to the event — Friday, 26 September 2025.
This is earlier than last year, based on learnings and the technical requirements that need to be worked through before the Hackathon.Briefing Meeting: A briefing session will be held during the week of 29 September. Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a calendar invite with details.
Pre-work Required: This Hackathon is not a “show up on the day” event. To get the most out of it, participants will need to:
Review and clean the dataset in advance.
Complete some initial group work prior to the Hackathon.
Come prepared to collaborate and innovate on the day.
This is a space where you can learn new skills, explore new processes and ways of thinking, and work with colleagues you may not have teamed up with before. It’s about collaboration, creativity, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
Challenge:
How might we modify consumer behaviour through gamified digital meter data.
We’re calling on one epic team from each water utility to create a proof-of-concept digital product that could change the way customers think about water.
