2026 Meet @ the Market | Session 1
Event description
Join us at our home in North Melbourne’s Meat Market for a relaxed concert series that invites you to deep dive into fascinating music in our most intimate setting. Featuring an atmospheric lighting design by Alex Nguyen, custom cocktails paired to each program courtesy of Brogan’s Way Gin, and the exuberant cultural explorer and ABC Classic presenter Stéphanie Kabanyana Kanyandekwe as an orchestral tour guide, taking you through the ways musical magic is made. Don’t forget to stick around afterwards to meet our extraordinary musicians.
In Session 1 we kick off the season with a program that’s out of this world: Gustav Holst’s epic The Planets, gripping the imagination from the peaceful glow of ‘Venus’ to the heartfelt nostalgia and jubilation of ‘Jupiter’. Alongside it, discover the brilliant Suite for Strings by Gustav’s daughter, Imogen Holst, interpreted by conductor Alice Farnham, who recently recorded her music to rave reviews. Add in the high-octane energy of John Psathas’s marimba concerto Djinn, performed by OV’s own Section Principal Percussionist Mathew Levy, and you’ve got an opening night that mixes cosmic grandeur, rediscovery and pure adrenaline.
