Microfilm Festival 2026

Rangebow MicroFilm returns for its fourth year — a one-day celebration of bold storytelling, creative experimentation, and the filmmakers shaping the future of screen media on the Sunshine Coast.

Held at the Maleny Community Centre, this lively festival brings together filmmakers, game developers, students, industry professionals and curious audiences for a day of screenings, talks, workshops and awards.

Across the program you’ll discover a curated selection of short films and micro games — from animation, documentary and narrative storytelling to experimental works and emerging interactive media. Many of the filmmakers are from Queensland, including students and emerging creators from the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Throughout the day, industry guests and educators join panels and conversations exploring filmmaking, inclusive storytelling, and creative careers in screen media. Past speakers have included award-winning filmmakers and leading academics, with sessions designed to inspire both aspiring creators and anyone who loves great stories.

The festival culminates in the Rangebow MicroFilm Awards, celebrating outstanding works from the official selection and recognising emerging talent from across the region.
