2026 Trinity College International Women's Day Breakfast: Balance the Scales

Trinity College invites you to celebrate International Women's Day 2026 by joining the College community for breakfast. The event will celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness for women's economic empowerment, and take action for equity and equality.

Attendees will enjoy a light breakfast and insightful presentation from our wonderful guest speaker: Miriam Borthwick, experienced Non-Executive Director; strategic communications and media relations professional.

About Miriam Borthwick

Miriam is a journalist and experienced Non-Executive Director. She currently serves as a Board member and Deputy Chair of Healthway WA, a Board member of disability service provider, Rocky Bay and its subsidiary SHIFT which builds homes for people with disability ,and is a Governor of Hale School and a member of its Foundation Board. She is also a co patron of Rowing WA. She previously served on the Boards of Lotterywest, and Rowing WA's 'Making Waves', a program to provide opportunities through the sport of rowing for teenagers in disadvantaged areas. She was a founding member and long-serving committee member of Women in Media. Miriam was the ABC's first female State Politics Reporter in WA, a Senior Reporter for 'The 7.30 Report', a consultant to the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation, Senior Media Advisor for Western Power and Senior Media Advisor at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. While raising a family Miriam successfully freelanced in radio broadcasting, corporate film making, as an MC and media advisor. She now enjoys facilitating panel discussions for a range of organisations.

In 2026, the UN Women Australia IWD theme is 'Balance the Scales'.

Balance the Scales is a promise that every woman and girl – regardless of background or identity – should be safe, heard, and free to shape their own lives. Yet in 2026, too many across Australia and the world are still denied that fair go. Discriminatory laws, policies, and practices persist. Gender-based violence remains widespread, and structural barriers block too many from seeking or receiving justice.

These barriers are not inevitable. They are built – and they can be dismantled. Equality is not about advantage for some; it's about dignity, safety, and fairness for all.

When women and girls stand equal, families are stronger, workplaces are fairer, communities thrive, and society becomes safer for everyone. This International Women’s Day let's Balance the Scales together.

Our chosen charity for 2026 - ACRATH

This year, Trinity College is fundraising for Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH), and charity working to eliminate human trafficking and the harm it causes, in Australia, the Asia Pacific region and globally. ACRATH has been a pioneering voice in the Australian Catholic sector in the fight against human trafficking and modern slavery since 2005. Funds raised from our event will help ACRATH to make this invisible crime visible, provide companionship to some victims/survivors of human trafficking, support effective national and international networks, and continue to lobby and advocate at State, National and International Government levels.
