Anti-racism in Action - ONE DAY COURSE (24 Nov)
Description
Be the change
Racism is one of the most harmful and complex issues of our time.
While few Australians see themselves as racist, a major ABC survey found that 76% of Australians from non-European background have experienced racial discrimination.
This compelling training course reframes racism in a modern Australian context and dares to have the tough conversations. Grounded in the National Anti-racism Framework, this course aligns with relevant rights, legislation, and international conventions. Honouring and amplifying the voices of lived experience, this training will change the way participants think about race.
We explore the critical difference between “non-racist” and “anti-racist” and empower participants with the tools to make a difference in their own workplace or community.
This course is not designed to reduce racist beliefs in those whose attitudes have become problematic (we have other courses for that!). It is designed for those who are already firmly against racism and want to become part of the solution.
Topics include:
Myths and misconceptions
Understanding the impacts
From non-racist to anti-racist
Reframing our language
Systemic and embedded racism
Recognising subtle racism, microaggression and unconscious bias
Practical skills to make a difference
