About us
The Aboriginal Benefits Foundation has assisted First Nations communities with projects designed to improve health and welfare. In particular we seek to utilise the healing power of art and creativity, and through education and art address some of the mental and physical issues facing the communities. Through the generosity of artists and collectors we raise funds to award grants each year. These modest grants now total over 150 over the past 20 years and have made a difference to many lives.
We have recently provided art assistance for long-term diabetic patients living in Darwin, away from their communities. Amongst these are many known Aboriginal leaders and artists who have expressed the wish to paint. Prevention of depression is a fundamental tool for well being. The ABF has also provided similar funds to Namatjira Haven and the Archie Roach Foundation (for a female A Capella Group). We have also become involved in areas impacted by natural disasters ie cyclones and floods and assisted in re-establishing artists in various ways.
We thank the many volunteers for their time and expertise over the past 20 years and the very generous artists and collectors who have contributed to our fundraisers.
