Tomo Nakayama Album Release, Old Unconscious, Stargazr @ FREMONT ABBEY
Event description
Tomo Nakayama: tomonakayama.com
Seattle singer/songwriter Tomo Nakayama’s latest album “Ocean” is the artist’s most personal and complete musical statement to date, a ten song reflection on grief, healing, and the meaning of creating art and maintaining humanity in a tumultuous world. Self-produced and backed by an all star band of Yuuki Matthews (The Shins), Abbey Blackwell (Alvvays), and Christopher Icasiano (Fleet Foxes), and featuring guest turns by Jesy Fortino (Tiny Vipers) and Debbie Miller, “Ocean” deftly trapezes across sonic worlds of dream pop, orchestral acoustic folk, indie rock and improvisational jazz while maintaining its wide open melodic and lyrical heart. It is a deeply collaborative album awash in images of the sea, serving as metaphors for the vastness of love, human connection, and our capacity to clearly see and be one with the world. "Ocean" will be released on November 7th in the USA by Porchlight Records and Den Tapes and in Japan by Lemon House Inc.
Born in Japan and raised in Seattle, Tomo Nakayama has straddled the line between intimate indie folk, exuberant synth pop, and cinematic soundtracks for well over two decades. Best known for placements in Netflix’s “House of Ninjas” and the Sundance Grand Jury nominated film “Touchy Feely”, Tomo’s music has been praised by NPR, KEXP, and the New York Times, and his hit single “Get to Know You” has received over 2 million streams worldwide to date. He has toured across the world, sharing the stage with artists such as Cornelius, Built to Spill, Buffalo Daughter, Twilight Sad, oono yuuki and Shugo Tokumaru. He has performed and collaborated with Jeremy Enigk (of Sunny Day Real Estate), Sera Cahoone, Dave Matthews, Jherek Bischoff, Jesse Sykes, Donnie Emerson (Dreamin’ Wild, Light in the Attic), and experimental dance company Malacarne. A former Artist in Residence at Seattle’s Town Hall, Nakayama’s sound installations and compositions have also been featured at the Museum of Northwest Art, King Street Station, and Wing Luke Museum.
