28th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration
Event description
Join us for our 28th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration!
In a speech in March 1966, Dr. King called on us to never feel comfortable with any form of segregation, tyranny, or supremacy.
“I never intend to adjust myself to segregation and discrimination,” he said. “I never intend to become adjusted to a religious bigotry. I never intend to adjust myself to economic conditions that will take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.”
On Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 we honor Dr. King's words at our 28th annual event, with the theme "Separate is Never Equal: Fight Injustice!"
This year’s in-person program will feature:
* A keynote by Ericka Huggins, an educator, leading Black Panther Party member, former political prisoner, human rights advocate, and poet
* Corrina Gould of the Sogorea Te' Land Trust
* Oakland Youth Chorus Chamber Singers
* Destiny Arts Junior Dance Company
* Piedmont Mayor Betsy Smegal Andersen
* Fourth Annual Art and Writing Showcase
... and more!
Presented by the Piedmont Anti-Racism and Diversity Committee and the City of Piedmont
