Event description

This exhibition by OAKEY showcases a series of wall-based sculptural works crafted from wood, wool and steel. Each piece is inspired by the intricate patterns found in wood grain, geometric forms, and the innovative artistic approach of Wassily Kandinsky.

The sculptures are constructed with steel shapes, meticulously wrapped in wool, and then mounted on wood. This layered approach creates a contrast between the soft, tactile wool and the solid wood, allowing for an exploration of texture, form, and negative space.

Each work possesses its own unique character, resonating at its own frequency.

OAKEY aims to spark curiosity about the hidden patterns and rhythms that surround us, inviting viewers to pause, observe, and perhaps discover new perspectives on the forms and structures that shape our world.

Artist Profile:

OAKEY is a multidisciplinary artist based at Central Studios on Kaurna Yerta (Adelaide, South Australia). Her practice encompasses sculpture, site-specific installations, performance, video, and sound. She creates works responding to both urban and natural environments using a diverse range of materials.

Drawing from her immersive experiences in varied natural settings, OAKEY has developed a profound fascination with the interconnectedness of the living world and our relationship to it.

A Bachelor of Creative Arts graduate with first-class honours, she has held residencies at ACE and George St Studios, and received mentorships from Guildhouse Catapult and the Helpmann Academy. In 2022, her artwork Reverence won first prize at the Heysen Sculpture Biennial. She also serves as Lead Installer at ACE.
