2nd Saturday Artist Showcase July: Frances Blines

On the second Saturday of each month we will have one of our local artists in store to demonstrate their artwork. We invite you to watch, participate and chat.

Saturday 13th July we welcome local botanical artist Frances Blines.  

Interested in art since an early age Frances has a Diploma of Teaching majoring in Visual Arts and in 1995 she started working at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at the inception of the Lessons in the Gardens programme.

She states: "I volunteered many hours making line drawings down by the lagoon for one particular lesson and found this art immersion highly beneficial to my skill development. Since then, I have continued to create artworks for the gardens – line drawings and colour images for brochures, signage and posters and mural work."

Frances works in multiple mediums including lino print, watercolour, sculpture and textiles.  She began painting a series of the Traditional Birth Month Flowers and was then inspired to create a series of Australian Birth Month Flowers featuring endangered indigenous plants.
