If you would like to create a healthier, more resilient garden that is better adapted to climate change, while beautifying your own backyard and contributing to local biodiversity, we warmly invite you to join this fun and practical biodiversity and gardening session for Chinese speaking residents. You will learn how planting local native plants can transform your garden into a green space that wildlife will love, improve environmental sustainability, and create long-term benefits for your family, community and the natural environment.

At this session, you will learn about:

  • What indigenous plants are and why they are important

  • The basic principles of creating a healthier, more resilient and sustainable garden

  • The five key elements of a wildlife-friendly garden

  • Examples of physical methods for managing common pest animals and plants in the garden

  • Common wildlife you can see in Whitehorse and how to attract them to your garden

  • How to become a volunteer with the Whitehorse Gardens for Wildlife program

  • More ways to get involved in protecting biodiversity and improving our environment

Light refreshments will be provided after the session. We warmly encourage you to stay, chat and connect with others who care about nature and love gardening. Every participant will also receive an indigenous plant to take home, giving you the opportunity to put what you have learned into practice and work together to create a healthier, greener and more liveable community.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your ticket through Humanitix or email gardensforwildlife@whitehorse.vic.gov.au to let us know. This will allow us to offer your ticket to someone else.
