[Event Full - waitlist active] 3.5 day Intensive in Contact Improvisation // in Sydney with Joerg Hassmann
Event description
3.5 days of dancing together! Dropping a few layers deeper, with more spaciousness and lightness!
SOFTENING INTO …
Softening into … connection … support … strength … ease … extension … momentum … or fulhearted craziness!
I have the wish that we can expand into very different states and qualities, individually and together. I realised that many episodes in my dances where I feel fully alive have an underlying principle: there is some sort of letting go, a sense of easing into … as a way to open doors to what’s really there and alive. I love to feel all that on a technical level as well, when we get in touch with a dance partner, offer a lift, dive into the floor, travel through space. We begin with softening into …
We’ll have longer somatic deep dives, that nourishes us and strengthens our connections. It will set the tone for our dancing and also our technical skill building. Developmental movement patterns, the elasticity of the fascia and an awareness around regulating the nervous system will be present in my work … and my wish to feel us as a group, supporting each other and co-creating magical spaces that we might call Jams.
A basic understanding of this dance form and a willingness to navigate through open formats is necessary to follow this Workshop.

BIO: Joerg Hassmann
Inspired by contact improvisation for more than 30 years as a way to understand and celebrate the moving body and human communication. Many kinds of sports, release techniques, somatic work, instant composition and creating dance and theater performances have informed his dance and his teaching. For a decade Joerg was involved as the artistic director in the CI festival 'contact-meets-contemporary'. Together with Daniel Werner he developed a systematic approach to Contact Technique that they taught over 12 years in Training Programmes in Berlin and throughout Europe.
His writings under www.joerghassmann.com/blog/ give deeper insights into his passion.
For the past two years Joerg has been living on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and is grateful to have options to share his passion and knowledge around the moving body - locally and in other parts of Australia. https://www.joerghassmann.com/
