    Event description

3CR's Uprise Radio and Stick Together have combined forces to bring you an afternoon of lively discussion and music to help 3CR Community Radio reach this year's Radiothon target.

Join us at Black Spark for a panel discussion on 'Climate, Capitalism and the Future', followed by some hefty tunes by local legends.

In the face of imminent climate collapse, floods, fires and pandemics, it is critical that we take action. We are thrilled to host a panel discussion to hear about strategy, tactics and solidarity. Joining the panel will be:

    - Nartarsha Bamblett

    - Zelda Grimshaw - Blockade Australia

    - Dr. Colin Long - Sustainability Campaigner from Trades Hall Victoria

    - Anthony Kelly - Melbourne Activist Legal Support

The panel will be sitting from 3:30pm-5pm.

Stick around afterwards for some aural delight to carry us into the early evening. Featuring:

    LES THOMAS

Les Thomas is a poetic country-folk and Americana singer-songwriter and storyteller from Naarm/Melbourne. His music is inspired by greats like Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Steve Earle and Hank Williams as well as local legends like Archie Roach, Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly. Noted for his passionate and engaged live performances, Les never hesitates to commit to the stories and people he sings about. As a stolen generations descendent via his mother’s side, music has proved to be an important pathway for reconnecting with his Aboriginality and cultural connection.

    MAXINE FINK

Maxine is the frontwoman of slick and gritty garage country outfit, Foggy Notion, who have appeared on the bills of staples of the Melbourne music scene including Leaps and Bounds, Out on the Weekend and the Goin’ Up Country Tour. Maxine’s songwriting never ceases to make your hairs stand on end; harrowing, heartbreaking yet packing a punch with an attitude of don’t take no s***. Maxine will be delighting your senses with some of her most recent solo material, filled with beautiful guitar work and philosophical musings of life and love, plus renditions of some of her great inspirations.

    SOOTY OWLS

Sooty Owls are an original three piece exotic grunge band formed during pandemic lock-downs of 2021. Forest-fed activist music from the Yarra Ranges, Australia with Ryan Tews on drums, Doc Proctor on bass and singer / guitarist PCD playing only 12 strings in alternate tunings. They're most recent video 'War with China' is an Official Selection at the International Activist Film Festival 2022, with the winners announced on the 23rd!

There'll be food, refreshments courtesy of some of the best local breweries, a 3CR stall and a RAFFLE, with a choice selection of prizes.

This event takes place on the lands of Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nations. We acknowledge that we live and work on stolen land, that sovereignty was never ceded and that 'Australia' is a crime scene. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land [-o-]
