RESPONDING with DELAY vs RESPONDING with INTUITION - A Contact Improv Dance Workshop with Joerg Hassmann

I wonder how these two modes of depth and connection go together:

On the one hand it is a game changer if I allow myself to properly arrive
and connect to space, body or touch before I respond and act. Tapping
into the elasticity of body and time, where I can respond with a delay
that is nourished by a deeper connection to myself and my surrounding.

Another mode to truthfully respond is instant. We might call it intuition. I respond almost before I know what the offer of the other will become.
The magic match, lack of any hesitation. We’ll have to invest a lot into
ease and fun with failure. Elements of falling and moving quicker, that
activate our reflexes will support this research.

I envision more spaciousness and freedom in our dancing, trusting more when it is not
obvious what’s going to happen … balanced by detailed explorations in
the somatic wonderland, alone and with a supportive bodywork-ish
curiosity. We’ll see how the bodies bring these two different worlds of
acting and responding together and live & witness it with delight.

We'll also revisit some technical essentials to find common ground, deepen
our practice ... and to have it challenged by our new found freedom to
respond.

I am realising more and more strongly that the depth of our individual
experiences is dependent on how we invest in the connections that make
us feel part of a group. 4.5 days can create quite a strong web

And a promise: We will dance a lot!

The Workshop will give inspiration for long term practitioners and is also
welcoming for people who already have a sense of the basics of CI and
want to go further and deeper.

is a dancer and passionate movement teacher, deeply interested in

learning and the question 'what is it that makes us feel connected?' -

on many different levels. He is one of the leading figures in Europe in

the field of Contact Improvisation, and has been teaching for more than

25 years, offering training programmes and organising festivals. He's

been living on the Sunshine Coast for the last four years, facilitating

the growths of the local CI community.
