About the Facilitator:
Working across both ceramic and painting mediums, Ipswich-based artist Tim Acutt explores formal beauty in his everyday surroundings. Tim's journey as a professional potter, spanning from 1984 to 1990, has contributed to the development of his distinctive artistic style characterised by the use of wheel-thrown techniques and subtle glazing methods. He draws strong inspiration from Japanese pottery, infusing his work with a delicate and refined approach by presenting vessels and ceramic sets that play with colour and traditional forms.
“I make things I enjoy using myself. There is nothing better than good Japanese food accompanied by sake. I hope my work enhances that experience.”
In addition to his ceramic work, Tim also works with paint and mixed media, weaving local landscape imagery into his compositions. His mixed media renderings often feature Queensland houses and evoke a sense of nostalgia for suburban scenes. Tim's meticulous attention to detail and his proficiency in both mediums grant viewers an appreciation of his refined sense of aesthetics and form.
Tim boasts over 30 years of experience as an art educator, having taught Visual Art in local Ipswich secondary schools such as St Edmund’s College and Ipswich Flexible Learning Centre. As a practicing artist, Tim has showcased his paintings in solo exhibitions at Redcliffe Art Gallery (2005) and Ipswich Art Gallery (2013) and rekindled his passion for pottery in 2018. He continues to create at his home studio, and his pottery is available for purchase at various local outlets.
