5 Key Insurance Tips for Floods - Free Legal Information Session (Morgan)

Community Justice Centre is presenting a free legal information session, “5 Key tips about insurance for floods” at the Morgan RLS at 4pm on 22 January 2023. Everyone welcome! After 40 years of providing South Australians with free legal help, including a dedicated program following the Black Summer fires in 2019, we can help inform you on the best practices and potential pitfalls when navigating insurance claims arising from the River Murray floods. The information is also more broadly relevant and very practical, including how to negotiate with your insurer and tips on preventing or handling a problem with a claim.

The topics covered include:

• - How to read and understand your insurance policy,
• - What evidence to collect to assist with a claim,
• - How to make a complaint about a policy or insurer,
• - How to lodge and negotiate with your insurance company, and some of the pitfalls to avoid after the floods.

The session is presented by Georgina Portus, a solicitor from our Riverland Community Justice Centre, who is also available for an audience Q and A.

Georgina is an experienced solicitor who has worked with various community legal services across South Australia for the last 5 years. Relocating to the Riverland in 2021, she became the solicitor at the Riverland Community Justice Centre providing free legal advice to the wider community. Georgina is a proud member of the Berri SES and involved in a number of community groups throughout the Riverland.
