As part of NAIDOC Week 2026 and the theme 50 Years of Deadly, the Centre for Policy Futures will host an online conversation exploring the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders to Australian public policy over the past five decades and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

This event features a keynote conversation reflecting on the evolution of Indigenous policy, leadership, advocacy and self-determination. Discussions will consider key achievements, lessons learned, and future priorities across areas such as governance, health, education, economic development, environmental management and community-led policy reform.

The keynote conversation will be followed by a facilitated yarning-circle-style discussion and audience Q&A, providing participants with an opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and reflect on the continuing importance of Indigenous leadership in shaping Australia's future.
