Description

Advocates for the reform of South Carolina's outdated cannabis laws will come together again on South Carolina's State House steps in Columbia for the 5th Annual South Carolina Cannabis Supporters Capitol Rally on Friday January 29, 2027 from 10 to 5.

Organized by the South Carolina Cannabis Coalition, the 2027 rally will run for 420 minutes (7 hours!) to bring awareness to the many medical benefits of cannabis and support medical marijuana for patients, decriminalization to prevent arrests for simple possession of less than 1 ounce of cannabis and finally legalizing cannabis for adults ages 21+ (in that order).

South Carolina still ranks in the "BOTTOM FOUR STATES" for cannabis law reform, while also ranking 4th in the nation for drug/marijuana possession arrest rates. (SC once ranked #2!)An average of over 50 people every day are arrested for cannabis in our state, needlessly clogging up SC's already overburdened and backlogged court system. Decriminalization would stop most arrests with tickets issued ($100.00 maximum fine) instead of non-violent people being arrested for a victimless crime. Prohibition costs SC over $100 Million annually! (ACLU data)

With the Federal Government soon expected to reschedule cannabis from Schedule 1 down to Schedule 3 on the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), the little-known 1980 SC Medical Marijuana bill (signed into law by SC Governor Richard W. Riley on February 28, 1980) has a clause in it saying if the Federal Government reschedules cannabis, the State must do the same within 30 days.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their portable Bluetooth speakers to this event. Why? DJ Gamecock will host a streaming JAM event on Spotify, the world's most popular music app.

The Spotify JAM Feature lets you hear our 420 music stream on both our big sound system and your own speaker at the same time! Spotify JAM connects up to 32 different portable Bluetooth speakers at once. And our Sony SRS-XP500 can share our stream with up to 99 other Sony Bluetooth speakers with Party Connect. The more speakers people bring, the louder our music gets! Whoever brings the speaker voted as the loudest &/or best sounding (by a show of hands by those in attendance), will WIN a cool large 3'x 5' cannabis leaf flag valued at up to $40.00!

We are also giving away a cannabis leaf flag to whoever brings the best SC prohibition protest sign! If you want to win either of those flags, bring some friends along with you to vote for YOU and greatly improve your odds to win! Everyone attending gets a FREE raffle ticket for chances to win one of at least 5 (FIVE!) weed flags to be given away. Whoever has traveled the farthest distance to attend this year's rally may also win a flag.

At High Noon, SCCC Founder & Executive Director Bob Chapman will give his welcoming speech and introduce the elected members of the SC General Assembly and other advocate speakers (who are asked to limit their speech to about 5 minutes).

At EXACTLY 4:20 PM, we will all march around the inner sidewalk of the South Carolina State House (with our portable Bluetooth speakers playing our 420 playlist) to protest prohibition in general and the ill-advised (illegal?) raids and unwise arrests at SC vape stores and smoke shops for selling cannabis products made Federally LEGAL by the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill. Some states passed laws to ban Delta 8 THC or Delta 10 THC found in cannabis. South Carolina did not! Outdated SC law specifically bans ONLY cannabis containing Delta 9 THC above 0.3%.

ALL advocates are invited! Be at the Capitol on Friday January 29, 2027 to be part of HISTORY! Help out by spreading the word about this event! Please go visit our Facebook Event page to say you are either GOING or INTERESTED! (Thanks in advance!)

Be part of the movement, meet like-minded individuals and enjoy an exciting day with cannabis-themed 420 music, guest speakers and informative sessions. Don't miss us on the (North) Capitol steps of the South Carolina Statehouse to celebrate growing support for cannabis in South Carolina! So, be there, Rain or Shine! Will be WILD!
