Expressive Drawing with Charcoal & Mixed Media

This is a fun and inspiring drawing workshop that will push you in new directions and expand your charcoal drawing skills. The class begins with a series of structured exercises designed to encourage experimentation with new drawing techniques and to broaden your approach to charcoal and mixed media.

You will explore the power and subtleties that can be achieved with compressed and willow charcoal as well as charcoal and other mixed media methods. 

Drawing demonstrations throughout the day will teach you how to loosen up your technique and enhance your understanding of line, tone, composition, and the development of your creative voice.

Materials List- Charcoal & Mixed Media Workshop 

*Items are in blue are basic requirements, the rest will help you on the day but optional.

Materials List 

• -    Compressed charcoal – suggest brands Faber Castel or Generals (several sticks of compressed charcoal – soft best)
• -       Willow charcoal – only a stick or two necessary 
• -       Charcoal pencil 
• -       White compressed charcoal or conte 
• -       Sennielier soap eraser
• -       Faber Castel grip eraser  
• -       Electric eraser
• -       A2 cartridge pad or drawing paper pad.
• -       Pad of smooth grain or two to three A2 sheets of heavier weight paper – 200gsm or heavier weight or 1 x 300gsm hot press or smooth grain, full sheet of watercolour or similar paper
• -       Worksable fixative 

General workshop supplies 

• Blue painters tape – self release
• Paper towel
• Cutting Knife
• Bull dog clips to attach paper to art board.
• Disposable gloves and face mask
