    Event description

South Australia and the University of Adelaide are honoured to be hosting the 69th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian Mammal Society in 2023.

The conference will be held from Tuesday 19th–Friday 22nd September, with a student and early careers workshop on the afternoon of Monday 18th. Wednesday afternoon will be reserved for conference tours, or for relaxing and enjoying some of the sites and attractions on offer in Adelaide and nearby regions (Barossa Valley winery tour anyone?). The AGM of the society will be held on Thursday afternoon, followed by the conference dinner at the SA Museum. Post-conference visits and tours may also be available for anyone interested.

As well as the formal presentations, there will be a number of social events, including welcome drinks on Monday evening, and the student and ‘old farts’ outings on Tuesday evening.

The theme of the conference will be ‘Celebrating Australia’s Mammal Biodiversity’, with a focus on human/wildlife interactions. There will be three-panel discussions to be held immediately prior to lunch on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with a number of guest expert panellists discussing topics of interest in the human/wildlife interface. Presentations on topics such as ‘managing overabundant species’, or ‘translocation successes and failures’ are strongly encouraged. But of course, presentations on any mammal-related topic are welcome.

Now is the time to start planning and preparing for this event, and it will be great to see everyone back in person after the absences of recent years due to Covid.
